About this calculator
A Fixed Deposit pays a locked-in interest rate for a chosen tenure. Most Indian banks compound FD interest quarterly, which makes the effective annual yield slightly higher than the quoted rate.
Interest on bank FDs is taxable as per your income-tax slab; TDS applies above threshold limits set by the government.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does quarterly compounding pay more than yearly?
Interest earned during the year itself starts earning further interest. The more frequent the compounding, the higher the effective yield for the same quoted rate.
What if I break my FD early?
Most banks levy a penalty (often 0.5–1%) and pay interest at the applicable rate for the actual holding period, reducing your final amount.
